Isn’t that amazing? It was written by a woman named Brené Brown.

Have you ever heard of her? She’s a researcher/ storyteller (her words) who specializes in shame and vulnerability and their effects on relationships. She’s given two extremely popular TED talks and has written several books. The above Parenting Manifesto is straight from her book Daring Greatly. She actually lives in Houston, so I always secretly hope I will run into her at the grocery store someday and we’ll become BFFs.

I was reminded of her TED talks earlier this week and immediately decided to share them with you all.  She talks about the importance of shame, vulnerability, and authenticity in relationships. Although her talks aren’t directly focused on parenting, they are definitely relevant.  If you liked my post on emotional safety, you will want to watch these videos.

Brene’s First TED Talk (2010): The Power of Vulnerability

Brene’s Second TED Talk (2012): Listening to Shame

If you like her talks, she has several books out.  I’d recommend starting with Daring Greatly, or my favorite, I Thought It Was Just Me (But It Isn’t).

I would love to hear what you think! Have you heard her speak before? How did these talks speak to you? How do you want to change your relationships with others, including your family, after listening?
