Stepping Stone Therapy offers comprehensive psychological, and psycho-educational evaluations for clients from preschool age through adulthood including Autism, ADHD, Learning Disability and Bariatric Evaluations.

What can be assessed with an evaluation?

How does the assessment process work?

First, your psychologist will meet with you for a thorough intake interview session. If the testing is for a child or adolescent, they will meet with the parents the first session. The goal of this session is to understand what questions you need answered, obtain thorough background information, and work together to develop a plan for the assessments.

Your psychologist will then develop an individually tailored battery of tests based on your needs and questions. A full evaluation can range from 4-15 hours total and is often completed over a period of several visits. This process also may involve communication with teachers or caregivers, school observations, and/or communication with your other medical professionals, as needed.

After the testing process is complete, we meet with you for a final session to discuss the results of the evaluation, answer questions, and provide appropriate recommendations and referrals. Depending on the reason for referral, a letter or a complete psychological report fully explaining the results of the testing will be written. This in-depth report typically contains background information, test scores and interpretations, a diagnosis if applicable, and a summary with recommendations. This report can be given to schools and other medical professionals to help them best work with you or your child.

What will the cost be for the evaluation? Will my insurance cover this?

The cost will vary based on the type of evaluation. Average costs can range from $600 for a very basic bariatric surgery or mental health evaluation to $3000 for a complex, comprehensive evaluation. (A typical evaluation for concerns related to attention, autism spectrum disorders, and/or learning disorders will typically cost around $2500.)

This cost may be significantly reduced if your insurance coverage includes benefits for testing. Please be aware that for in-network insurance plans, your specific insurance plan will determine your out of pocket cost for each session. Your cost will depend on your copay, co-insurance amounts, and deductible, as well as your testing benefits. As a courtesy to you, we will attempt to verify your coverage and benefits for testing after your initial intake session but prior to beginning your testing sessions. We will then let you know what our best estimate of your cost is. We also encourage you to call your insurance company and ask about your out of pocket costs for the following CPT codes: 90971 (intake session), 96130, 96131, 96132, 96133, 96136, 96137, and 90834.
